God is our Lifeline

Imagine needing God like the way an infant in the womb is dependent on its mother, through its umbilical cord.
Now imagine this infant only being fed a handful of Sundays throughout the year. For a brief 5 minutes here and there everyday, when you remember.
Our lifeline is God. We need Him, our hearts and our souls crave Him, and this hunger will leave a burning hole that we fill with things that don’t matter. With things that will ultimately destroy us.
Life can become this cycle of needing, starving for God (when tragedies hit, hitting rock bottom, or just going through something tough) – to our needs being met or a sense of contentment received because of the hope we have in Christ (through prayer, being in the word) – to feeling content and hopeful which leads to slacking in our spiritual life as we feel “full” as we are riding out that spiritual high. Only to become starved again and repeat the cycle.
It is when we live in full dependence on God that we begin to experience the true contentment only He can give.
I’m writing this from my personal experience, as an encouragement to others to stay in the word, continue to pray, and be a part of the church on Sundays (and everyday really). While our “works” aren’t what grants us salvation, I don’t see how starving yourself will help you grow in holiness or experience the joy God intends for you.
1 Peter 1:15-16 But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.“
